Our resident skincare expert shares the tools and techniques to achieve a truly clean face.
– KEYS SOULCARE
As one of the most exposed, observed, and sensitive parts of our bodies, our faces definitely deserve proper TLC. And, who better to seek advice on how to get the most out of face washing rituals than Dr. Renée? Our go-to skincare expert shares her top tips to keeping our skin clean and cared for, so we can shine brighter every day.
1. Cleanse
Many times, it can feel like it takes a cloth or cleansing oil to really remove the thick buildup from the day. I follow this step with a gentle or foaming cleanser, which doesn’t contain alcohol, that gets the additional oil and build-up off of the face.
Wet your face with lukewarm water and use your fingertips to apply cleanser. Using a washcloth, mesh sponge, or anything other than your fingertips can irritate your skin.
2. Tone
I follow [my cleanse] with a toner that strips the leftover oil on my face so that it doesn’t oxidize — and turn into a black head!
3. Replenish
Once my skin is dry for three minutes, I put a retinoid — or Retinol alternative, such as bakuchiol — on. (I use a prescription strength one. My latest fave is EK LIEF, which I alternate with Retin-A).
4. Moisturize
Apply moisturizer if your skin is dry or itchy. Be gentle when applying any cream around your eyes so you do not pull too hard on this delicate skin. I would recommend our Skin Transformation Cream — featuring plant-derived bakuchiol to rejuvenate the skin as well as niacinamide and ceramides, which restore, brighten, and hydrate.
5. Repeat
Perspiration — especially when wearing a hat or, say, a bike helmet — irritates the skin. Wash your skin as soon as possible after sweating. Limit washing to twice a day and after sweating. Wash your face once in the morning and once at night, as well as after sweating heavily.
