KEYS SOULCARE FAQS ON DERMATOLOGY
FIRST, WHAT’S A DERMATOLOGIST?
A dermatologist is a doctor who helps people with problems related to their skin, hair and nails. If you have a rash, acne, or other skin issues, a dermatologist can figure out what’s wrong and help make it better. They also treat things like warts, eczema, and even skin cancer. Think of them as skin experts!
Dermatologists have extensive training and knowledge of ingredients that are beneficial to skin and have created effective formulas down to a science. They continue their education by getting specific certifications — like getting board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology — to get trained on and show off additional skills.
DERMATOLOGIST-DEVELOPED, DERM-TESTED, OR DERM-APPROVED?
While there are no regulated definitions, these terms generally refer to the dermatologist’s level of involvement in developing, testing or approving a particular brand or product:
DERMATOLOGIST-TESTED
This means, at its most basic, that a product was tested by or in consultation with a dermatologist. The results of the testing are not always specified. A product could pass testing for safety, but not necessarily be the best for all skin types. Dermatologist-tested also does not guarantee that the product is recommended by the dermatologist, just that it was tested by one.
DERMATOLOGIST-APPROVED
This means a dermatologist has reviewed a product by some type of testing and approves of it, indicating that they believe it is safe or beneficial for skin use. The dermatologist is essentially endorsing the product — giving it their stamp of approval — though it doesn’t always specify how rigorous the approval process was or how many dermatologists agree.
DERMATOLOGIST-DEVELOPED
Often more casually called “derm-developed,” this means the product was created or formulated with the expertise of a dermatologist. In other words, the derm was actively involved in the development of a product formulation.
Derm-developed is recommended — not only because it means a dermatologist helped create it — but it often also includes being dermatologist-tested for safety and dermatologist-approved for effectiveness. A dermatologist-developed offering provides a more complete assurance of quality and expertise.
All Keys Soulcare offerings are dermatologist-developed! Dr. Snyder’s input helps to ensure safety, while also using literature studies to recommend effective levels of ingredients in our offerings.
