Tools to make the most of your day’s most precious moments.
– KEYS SOULCARE
Who hasn’t had those days when your mind is spinning with undone tasks, uncontrollable challenges, and a nagging sense of self-judgement before we even get out of bed?
Now more than ever, we’re finding that rising above the feeling of having to do everything relies on our ability to sit in stillness — and just for a few precious moments — do absolutely nothing at all.
Just taking a few early morning minutes for yourself before the outside world (and inner thoughts) have a chance to creep in can do wonders.
Here are a few of our favorite morning meditation tips, inspired by Alicia’s daily Kundalini practice.
DO IT FIRST THING
Before coffee. Before checking e-mail or opening apps. There’s something powerful about the calm and quiet in the moments just before sunrise. The idea is to start in as “neutral” a state of mind as possible, so the earlier, the better.
GIVE YOURSELF A GIFT: YOUR FULL ATTENTION
Sit up straight and close your eyes. Set a timer. Life and its unexpected challenges and adventures will be waiting for you on the other side of this. Set an intention to simply be with yourself for a few precious, focused minutes.
MAKE A SOUNDSCAPE
These White Sun playlists (@whitesunmusic) always put us in a more peaceful, optimistic state of mind. (They make beautiful background music at the end of the day, too.)
FOUCS IN
Repeat a self-encouraging mantra or phrase such as “Everything that I need to get through this day is sitting here inside me, right now” or “I’ve gotten to this moment and I’ll get through others, too.” Now, visualize yourself moving through the day with purpose and clarity. Ok, back to you. When else are you able to carve out space in your day that’s just for you? And once you do, how does it feel?
