OUR FAVE MOMENTS FROM THE ULTA BEAUTY LOUNGE
Literally too many soulcare and self-love gems to count.
– KEYS SOULCARE
“You ready to feel that good energy?” — Alicia
ICYMI, the vibe at the Keys Soulcare Lounge Ulta Beauty Edition was 100% on. From the priceless act of prioritizing personal care, to letting others’ wisdom, light, and success encourage us, each conversation played out like a mini soulcare masterclass.
Read on for our favorite, can’t-miss moments.
“It takes courage to switch the things that we might be used to, or the habits that we might have always decided to fall into and to change those things around us that need to be changed,” shared Alicia. “Because only you can make a brand new you, you know what I mean?”
The night’s first guests were DJ, writer, and wellness community founder Ty Alexander and poet-slash-self-care advocate Darryl Dzapasi. Each speaker brought their own perspective on how our inner worth is a mirror of the beauty we see in our own lives (and others) too.
For Alexander, that meant finally giving in to the urge to share her turntable skills with the world with a series of Twitch.tv and Reels sets that lit up the online world — including a surprise repost from Alicia’s partner, Swizz.
“I spent all of quarantine practicing, downloading music, just getting really lost and falling in love with music again. And so that was self-care and real life for me,” said Alexander, echoing Self Care IRL’s mission statement about how wellness and courage to explore the things that please us — no matter how wild-seeming — go hand-in-hand.
It’s no secret that we’re all about community here at Keys Soulcare. So when we teamed up with Ulta Beauty to host this event, we immediately started to think of ways to show our community some extra love. Our favorite moment? Surprising two fans with a guest appearance LIVE in the lounge!
Alicia chatted with Keys Soulcare community members Tatyana Crockett and Sissy Mizell about the magic just a few soul-nourishing words can bring into our days. Crockett’s self-affirming affirmation of “I plant positive seeds in the fertile soil of my mind,” and Mizell’s personal rally call of, “It doesn’t matter if they like you, all that matters is that you like you” were too good not to muse on and celebrate with serenades of Alicia’s hit songs “Diary” and “Girl on Fire” as an homage to each woman’s words and journey.
“We have to understand how much power we have, especially when we shift our minds and begin to celebrate our greatness and our purpose without holding back. That highest vision that we have for ourselves.” — Alicia
Few share their journeys with more open-heartedness (and style) than entertainer, activist, lifelong explorer, and PATTERN Beauty founder Tracee Ellis Ross. She and Alicia talked about everything — and we mean everything: her entrepreneurship and life-long exploration, the soulcare rituals that feed her creativity, and her latest role as a Diversity and Inclusion advisor at Ulta Beauty.
“My mind is very smart, but my body and my heart are so much wiser,” she shared, while delving into the ways that she supports herself — and her work towards a greater good — throughout the day. Among our faves: swaying her hips while washing the dishes, sharing a giggle with a girlfriend on the phone, or using crystals and a few deep breaths as a centering focal point. “That currency of love fuels me.”
“Please take responsibility for the energy you bring into this space.” — Jen Atkin on her chosen 2021 mantra.
Many know Jen Atkin for her mastery of all things beauty — from her celeb clients and brands OUAI and Mane Addicts, to her new best-selling book, Blowing My Way to the Top. We were thrilled to connect with her in real time, plus get an intimate take on the mantras and mindset that keep her at the top of the hair game. “Over time, you’ll learn, ‘I trusted my gut in this scenario and it got me here… and I’ve really learned to leave my ego at the door,” she shared, referencing some of the big takeaways from her new book. “I don’t like to dictate. I like to give my honest opinion… but I love to, to put myself in a position where I never stop learning.”
Alicia closed the night with an open invitation to continue to learn, shine, and share as the Keys Soulcare journey continues to unfold.
“The Ulta Beauty and the Keys Soulcare communities are here to help, so share with us what lifts you up, what fills you with joy, what you do when life gets hard,” she shared. “By sharing you may just help someone else’s day feel a little brighter.”
We couldn’t agree more. Keep shining — and let’s get into more of your favorite moments in the comments!
