AK tells us about the guidelines that keep her grounded and grateful.
– KEYS SOULCARE
ICYMI, AK is on back-to-back tours this summer. As Alicia goes around the world (and back again), she’s fine tuning her soulcare practice as a mother, wife, artist, and global powerhouse. But how does our goddess-in-chief balance life, career, and mental health while on the run? Here’s a note from Alicia on “doing it all” from the road, with the rituals she swears by.
A lot of y’all ask me what it’s like to be on tour and how I handle all the craziness while being all over the world. I’m still learning a lot about balance, let me just say that. I’m always figuring out what’s best for me, when to power through and when to just… rest. It’s easy to get caught up in all the lights and that crazy energy from the crowd. I’m so grateful, humbled, and blown away by it all. But road life has its moments.
Being on tour means crazy hours and lots and lots of rules. My body is putting in work, so I have to put in some of that extra soulcare to stay ready for it all — especially after everything we’ve been through in these last fews years. Even though I work hard to bring positivity and joy with me, I have to also be mindful as a mother, artist, wife, and human being at all times. I have to care for me so I can show up as much as possible and continue to receive my blessings on and off the stage.
No matter where I am, I always make time to just create. It’s my therapy. Sitting down on my piano and hitting the keys keeps me flowing. I just give myself the freedom to just feel it. There’s no pressure to be perfect or come up with something for the studio, it’s just me and my piano.
I also get outside. That’s a non-negotiable. I love exploring. I have to connect with Mother Nature and let her nourish me. I love trees, so I always try to find the biggest, greenest one and just sit with it. Trees are so powerful. I love to see all that strength and beauty. Trees are a reminder that greatness takes time. They teach us to be our biggest, most beautiful, natural selves. They’re amazing.
The other thing I always try to do? Keep it simple! There’s enough going on when you’re on tour. I don’t give myself anymore schedules or restrictions than I already have. I let myself be. I let myself do nothing or just explore where I am with my boys. I breathe and meditate. I walk to move my body. Nothing too extra. We sometimes do the most when it’s better to do enough. We already are enough just by existing so I try to make time do as little as possible on some days outside of the tour to really just enjoy where I am, who I am and who I’m with along the way.
AK is booked and busy, but knows rest is also essential. How are you finding ways to do less this week?
