Aesthetics aside, eucalyptus is more beneficial than you think.
– KEYS SOULCARE
You’re not alone if you think of self-care and picture a warm bubble bath. Soaking for hours has been the Pinterest pinnacle of R&R. The reality? Finding the time or space to partake in a lush bath is far from feasible in our everyday rituals. (But we salute those indulging in a daily soak!) The good news is that you don’t need to soak to feel luxurious, but you must try this simple hack: eucalyptus.
Eucalyptus in the shower is an oldie-but-goodie for upgrading your daily routine. The affordable spa-like treatment is easy, but there’s more to it than tossing a bundle of eucalyptus over the showerhead. For the ultimate self-care session, follow these tips to hang eucalyptus properly so you can ditch the tub, not the self-love.
But first, what are the benefits of eucalyptus in showers?
There must be a reason why hanging eucalyptus in the shower is a well-known practice of self-care. It turns out that eucalyptus oil is a great form of aromatherapy. (Hence the shower for a steamy hit of its earthy scent.) A whiff of this minty and medicinal plant has been shown to reduce stress, clear sinuses, and even offer pain relief.
How to hang eucalyptus in the shower
To get started, gather your eucalyptus branches from your shop of choice. Next, you’ll need something to roll with such as a rolling pin, can of soup, or bottle of wine. (Don’t worry, just trust the process.) You can also grab scissors and twine, but this is optional.
Now, it’s time to prep and hang the eucalyptus. Grab a few stems of your eucalyptus plant and lay them on a flat surface like a cutting board. Then, take your rolling tool and gently roll along the leaves. This will release oil from the eucalyptus, making the scent more potent in the shower. Finally, hang your branches from the showerhead. Remember that optional scissors and twine? Cut a piece of twine to length and use it to tie your eucalyptus around your showerhead. (You can skip and hang the plant upside down along the shower’s spout if it feels secure enough for you.)
Once you have your branches in place, take your shower and allow the water to steam and carry the eucalyptus oil into the air. Breathe deep and enjoy. Remember to let the steam do the work and keep your eucalyptus above the water’s flow. (After all, you don’t want to totally drench your leaves.)
